Guardianship Proceedings Share

New York Law permits the appointment of a guardian for an adult person who is unable to handle his or her financial affairs or personal affairs.  These proceedings are complicated and, if a guardian is appointed, there is court involvement as long as the subject of the proceeding needs a guardian.   Our office assists persons who believe another person needs a guardian, and also represents persons, typically family members, who object to the appointment of a guardian.  In addition, we assist appointed guardians to meet all their legal requirements.   These tasks include qualifying the guardian and obtaining a bond, assisting with marshaling the assets and establishing proper guardianship accounts, and the preparation of initial and annual reports and accountings.
